KinoCalendar

Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 17, 2026

KinoCalendar is a free service that aggregates movie showtimes for local theaters, on the web and in the iOS app. This policy explains what personal information KinoCalendar collects, why, where it is stored, and the choices you have. KinoCalendar collects as little as possible and never sells your data.

You can use KinoCalendar without an account. Browsing showtimes — on the web or in the app — requires no sign-in, and in that mode we collect no personal information at all. Everything in the first section below applies only once you choose to sign in.

What we collect

  • Account information. If you sign in with Google or Apple, KinoCalendar receives your account identifier, your email address, and your name, which we store and use to label your account in the app. Providers send the name only the first time you authorize, and only if you allow it; if it isn't provided, your email is shown instead. On the website, signing in with Google also returns your profile photo, which is shown in the navigation bar; it is kept only in your browser's local storage and is never sent to our servers. The iOS app neither requests nor receives it. We do not receive your contacts or anything else from the provider. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, Apple gives us a private relay address instead of your real one, and we use only that.
  • Your saved data. When you sign in, the lists you build or import, the individual showtimes you save, and the theaters you favorite are stored in your KinoCalendar account so they sync between your devices and the website. Lists are stored as movie titles and numeric movie IDs; a list imported from Letterboxd also records the source list's address, which contains your Letterboxd username.
  • Digest subscription. If you opt in to the weekly digest, we store the city you selected and timestamps such as when you subscribed and when we last emailed you, so we know what to send and when.
  • On-device storage. Your browser's local storage holds your theme preference and your sign-in session. The iOS app keeps the same kinds of preferences on your device, and stores your sign-in session in the iOS Keychain.

Location, in the app

The iOS app can ask for your location to sort theaters and showtimes by how close they are to you. If you allow it, the app requests a single, deliberately imprecise fix (accurate to roughly a kilometre) and uses it only on your device, to calculate distances. The app never sends your location to KinoCalendar or to anyone else, and never stores it. Declining the prompt turns off distance sorting and changes nothing else. The website does not ask for your location at all — its “near me” features work from the city you pick.

The optional iPhone Shortcut works differently, and it is your choice each time you run it: to answer “is this playing near me?” it sends the coordinates iOS gives it to a KinoCalendar server, which uses them to pick the nearest city and sort theaters by distance. They answer that one request and are not stored.

How we use it

We use your information only to operate the service: to save your lists, saved showtimes, and favorite theaters and sync them across your devices, and to send the opt-in weekly digest of movies on your lists that are playing near you. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information for advertising.

Where it's stored and who processes it

KinoCalendar relies on a small number of third-party service providers ("sub-processors") to operate. They process your data only to provide their service to us:

  • Google — authentication, when you choose to sign in with Google. The iOS app includes Google's sign-in SDK, which collects its own diagnostic and device information under Google's policy, independently of what KinoCalendar collects. It is only exercised if you tap “Sign in with Google”. (Google Privacy Policy)
  • Apple — authentication, when you choose to sign in with Apple, including its optional private email relay. (Apple Privacy Policy)
  • Cloudflare — hosting and data storage. Your account data (lists, saved showtimes, favorite theaters, and any digest subscription) is stored in Cloudflare's database (D1). (Cloudflare Privacy Policy)
  • Cloudflare Web Analytics — the website (not the app) counts page views so we know which cities and pages get used. It is cookieless: no cookies are set, no identifier is stored in your browser, and Cloudflare states it does not fingerprint or profile visitors. There is no analytics of any kind inside the iOS app. (Cloudflare Privacy Policy)
  • Resend — delivery of the weekly digest emails. (Resend Privacy Policy)
  • The Movie Database (TMDB) — movie poster images load in your browser, app, and email client directly from TMDB. We do not send TMDB any of your personal information.
  • Theater logo hosts — a venue's logo is loaded from wherever that venue hosts it, which today is 61 different domains across cinema chains and image hosts. For 31 venues that logo comes from Google's favicon service, so Google receives a request when those theater cards are displayed, whether or not you have ever signed in with Google. These are plain image requests that carry no account information and no identifier from us.

Email notifications and unsubscribing

The weekly digest is strictly opt-in. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can also unsubscribe from within the app at any time. Unsubscribing immediately and permanently deletes your subscription record — your email, selected city, and send timestamps — from our storage. Your saved lists, saved showtimes, and favorite theaters are not affected; those are removed only if you delete your account (see below). We honor unsubscribe requests right away.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your account data while your account exists, and your subscription data while you are subscribed. Unsubscribing deletes your subscription record, as described above.

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time. In the iOS app, go to You → Settings → your account → Delete Account. Deletion is immediate and permanent: it removes your account record, your saved lists, saved showtimes, favorite theaters, and any digest subscription from our servers, and it signs you out everywhere.

We hold no long-lived credential from Apple: when you sign in with Apple we verify the one-time proof your device presents and keep nothing, so there is no stored Apple token to revoke. If you granted Google Drive access on the website, deleting your account also deletes the Google token held for that. Signing in again after deletion creates a brand-new, empty account.

You can also email privacy@kinocalendar.com to request deletion, or with any privacy-related question.

Cookies and local storage

KinoCalendar does not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies. We use your browser's local storage to remember your preferences (such as theme) and your sign-in session.

Children

KinoCalendar is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
